EDWARD

HIS story

Edward Becenko is a self-taught, established mid career artist based in Winnipeg, Manitoba Canada. He currently works out of his studio in The Exchange District in Winnipeg. He has been exhibiting his work since 2006. His work can be found in private and public collections in Canada, the United States and South America.

Within his practice, his abstract compositions are a way of expressing his internal thoughts and perspectives on life. Life is layered with feelings, emotions and images. Through his art he tries to capture the essence of those images through colour, depth, texture, lines and form. Becenko’s inspiration can be derived from everyday images such as a crack in the pavement, the peeling of weathered poster paper on a wall to the Canadian Prairie horizon.

As a Gay man the male nude is also prevalent through out his work.

As an abstract/contemporary artist he creates works that are engaging, thought provoking  and yet personal to himself. “It is a form of communication without words”. He feels art draws one in and that you are always in it its presence. Becenko uses unconventional instruments and works with acrylic, pigment, water colour, gauche and other innovative media in his mark making. His abstract variations range from works on paper, image transfer, collage, monotype printmaking to medium and large-scale paintings on panel.
